Hi yall, I started Mountain biking about 15 years ago and was very serious about it riding everywhere from Norcal to nothern WA. Then I got married, went to Korea, then Iraq, since I have been in the Army for the last 9 years. So after coming back from Iraq, I decided I needed to get back into mountain biking, out of storage came the old Specialized, and it wasnt good, the headset was shot, the elastomers in the fork were dust... not good. After trying to find a fork, and a headset, Does anyone carry 1" stuff anymore, I found myself looking at a new RockHopper, and it followed me home. Now I am getting back in shape foe biking and starting to Explore the trails here around Colorado Springs, Colorado!!!

Returned to mountain biking after 15 years growing up ( chronologically anyway ), having kids, blah blah. Got the bug REAL bad then promptly broke my elbow showing my 8 year old how to do jumps, etc. Not before I bought a new bike - yet to be delivered. Hardtail Ibex but I've never had suspension so a whole new world. Glad sites like this are out there for those of us on injured reserve for the time being.

Hey my name is Bryant, I am getting ready to start the whole mountain bike world here after i get my tax return and am able to afford a decent bike. I love biking, i currently ride a BMX and enjoy spending the remaining daylight after work at the skatepark, but it can sometimes get crowded and somewhat repettitive doing every day. I am currently serving in the air force in the bay area but am originaly from St. George UT. Never did too much moutain biking just as a kid with one of those walmart special mountain bikes. Im really interested in the whole DH scene but there are a lot of good single track trails in the area. Durring the summer our local Taho skii resorts offer free lift tickets for military members to use thier DH tails and i love snowboarding there so i figure that DH will be just as exciting. I dont know if i should get 2 separate bikes one for the trails and one for the DH. Being a beginner i dont really know if there is something good for both styles of riding. So any info would be great. Sorry about the long post probably should have made separate posts for the questions. But anyways thats me in a nutshell.

Hi Ivo22- welcome to the forums and to the sport for that matter. It sounds like you've got the dream shot for riding!
A few years back I would have said the type of bike you're looking for doesn't exist but a recent surge in the All Mountain bike segment is actually exactly what you seek.
In this day and age you have options like the Yeti 575, the KHS AM2000, the Iron Hose MKIII, Ibis Mojo, just to name a few.
These are bikes with 5 to 6 inches of travel for absorbing hits on downhill & freeride runs that are still light enough (and firm enough) to be pedaled on the trails.
Best of luck on your search and again, welcome!

cyclee.comHi I'm the webmaster over at cyclee.com I'm going around to various cycling forums announcing the launch of our cycling community site, where you can share and communicate with other local riders in your area, also where you can form any type of riding group you like. Say you have 4 buddies you ride with on Thursdays at your secret freeride park, you could make your own group and even mark it as private and control who can join your group. Or you can make a completely open club site where all the information is publicly viewable, so that new potential members can explore the club first then decide to join. The site works much like myspace or facebook etc. but better since the site is focused specifically on cycling of all sorts and you can create clubs etc. I will continue to be adding features to the site that make it customized to the cycling community. You can create your own account our member profile and also create your own cycling groups/clubs/shops/riding styles groups. There's also a nice ride calendar feature where you can post your groups or individual ride dates and times. Any feedback or suggestions you may have are welcome, and if you have any questions feel free to ask me. Thanks, AdminStan Cyclee.com

Hello, My Name is Ken, and I am in my 2nd season of mountain biking, and my Forth in biking. I am soon going to be 53, and went with 2 years of biking experience on crushed gravel trails and woods roads too riding the advanced single track trails in the trail network at French Fort Cove here in Miramichi, New Brunswick,Canada. I am a member of the local mountain bike club and help out with the grooming of trails etc when ever I can. I am riding a 2006 Reign, I have had some upgrades on the bike, I got a set of carbon handle bars, fox forks and a better set of brake levers. I started out four years ago with a Giant Yukon, kept that for about a week, then got a Giant Warp DS 2, then last year got the Giant Reign, its a great bike. I am learning every day out on the trails, I still have not mastered every thing on the trails, but am improving slowly but steadly, and having a blast doing it,just wish I would have started to ride earlier. Last Year I went down to Back Country Excursions in Southern Maine and rode some of the trails down there, great place with some awesome people and excellent trails.
