The summer season is right around the corner and Maine Huts & Trails has some challenging and tasty events on the horizon.
Get your mits dirty and have some fun on Saturday, July 11, all while helping out Maine Huts & Trails and the Carrabassett Region chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association prepare the trails for the summer season. All trail work volunteers can stay at the Stratton Brook Hut for half price. The day of work will be followed by a pig roast dinner.
Locally raised pork smoked on site with specialty barbecue sauces, homemade macaroni and cheese made with Cabot cheeses, local Marfax baked beans, seasonal vegetable sides, homemade cornbread and even local craft beers are on the menu for the Summer Kick-Off Pig Roast, being held on Saturday, July 11. For the second summer, Baxter Outdoors and Maine Huts & Trails are partnering to host a classic backcountry race, the Backwoods Duathlon, happening on Saturday, August 1. The two-discipline, multi-sport race will include a 10K trail run and a 15K mountain bike leg to be completed either solo or as a relay team. Participants may choose to enter solo or as a relay team of two. Race fees are $35 (early bird)/$40 for solo registration and $55 (early bird)/$65 for team registration. Lodging discounts are available to racers. Stay for the night and enjoy the first ever Brews & Views Beer Pairing Dinner at the Stratton Brook Hut.
