2013 24-Hour MTB National Championships set for this weekend in New Mexico
Four National Titles Up for Grabs
National championships will be awarded in the following categories:
Solo Male
Solo Female
4-person Open Team
4-person Junior Co-Ed Team
In addition, the non-championship categories as part of the 24 Hours in the Enchanted Forest include:
Solo Singlespeed (Male and Female)
Duo (Female, Male, Singlespeed and Co-ed)
4-person Team (Female, Male, Singlespeed)
5-person Open Team
Corporate Team (Up to 10 riders per team)
Enchantedland (2-6 riders per team, aimed at novices, juniors and families)
The Course
A single lap of the course stretches 19.7 miles and is almost entirely singletrack except for a small segment near the staging area. Riders will start at an elevation of 7,785 feet above sea level, but the highest point on course is only 8,350 feet in elevation. With a total of just 1,800 feet of climbing, this rolling course promises to be fast.
"Gallup and New Mexico are ecstatic to be hosting 24-Hour Mountain Bike Nationals for the first time,” said race director Lindsay Mapes. “A race of this caliber is putting us on the map, finally!"

Riders to Watch
Expect to see 2011 24-hour national champion Josh Tostado (Breckenridge, Colo.) near the front of the men’s solo field. Challenging him will be 2013 Pro MTB Ultra-Endurance Tour men’s standings leader Tinker Juarez (Whittier, Calif./ Sho-Air/Cannondale), an Olympian and former world champion, and Evan Plews (Salem, Ore.), the 2011 men’s singlespeed 24-hour national champion.
Defending 24-hour national champion Jari Kirkland (Crested Butte, Colo.) will be looking to hang on to the Stars-and-Stripes jersey for another year in the women’s solo category. Some of the top contenders also aiming for that top podium spot include Nina Baum (Albuquerque, N.M.), Rita Borelli (Morgan Hill, Calif.) and Tracy Thelen (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
