Two new leaders have emerged as we hit the halfway point of the USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Gravity Tour (Pro GRT). The fifth of 10 stops on the tour was held on May 26 at the Gravity Open at Plattekille Mountain in Roxbury, N.Y. The weather wreaked havoc on the Plattekille Mountain course with six inches of snow at the double summit and relentless wind and wet snow at the base.
Anne Galyean (Frederick, Md./Trek-Integrity Racing-Deity) conquered the elements to win the gold medal and in doing so claimed the top spot in the Pro GRT women's standings over Robyn Embrey (Incline Village, Nev./Shine Riders Co). Galyean holds a 40-point advantage over Embrey with five races remaining. Holding on to third place in the standings was Jacqueline Harmony (Tucson, Ariz./Team Harmony Pivot) with 72 points. Moving into the top five with their performances at Plattekill were Eva Wilson (Kensington, N.H./Oliver Racing) and Mary Elges (Windsor, Conn./Speed Legion) with 62 and 60 points, respectively. Wilson had the sixth-fastest time on Sunday while Elges placed third.
Logan Binggeli (Saint George, Utah/KHS-LiveStrength-ISX Sports) wrested the top spot in the Pro GRT men's standings away from Aaron Gwin (Wildomar, Calif./Specialized Racing). Binggeli placed seventh on Sunday and now edges in front of Gwin, 144-140, with five races to go. A silver medal at Plattekill for Brook MacDonald (NZL) gives him sole possession of third place with 100 points. Kevin Aiello (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./KHS Bicycles) drops to fourth place in the standings with 88 points after placing fourth on Sunday, while Plattekill gold medalist Neko Mulally (Reading, Pa./Trek World Racing) moves up to fifth place in the standings with 74 points.
