I've got a zion hardtail frame, anyone know what forks would work best for cross country and trail riding?

The Zion mounts 80 to a 100mm fork if I recall- Check into the Fox Talas R 130. It goes for $549 but weights only 3.84lbs

You can get good deals on a Manitou black.

Hey Sky, been meaning to ask you if you ended up going with the Manitou Black when you did your build?

Best is a bit of a relative term. Best price, best susupension, best bang for the buck......and the list goes on. I'm kinda lovin the Fox Talus or RP-2 for an Airshock The Talus I rode was on a Gary Fisher and the crown was swept forward which really tightened the steering up a lot. (took all of the oversteer away) RP-2 is just plain nice regardless of how you ride it but I think it only comes in 120mm. If you're looking for a cheaper springer fork I've had great luck with the RockShox Dart-3 I mean yeah, it hardly compares to the $500+ Air Forks out there but for a springer it performs really well espcially with the $150 price tag. I keep one on my hardtail and it soaks up everything I throw at it.....course it throws it right back at you too ;D

That's some good advice right there- I had the older Rockshox Judy springer and worked great for pounding along. Some riders actually try to set up their air suspension to feel as closely as a true spring design anyway. About the biggest downside to my fork was that it was pretty heavy (must have been close to 6 pounds). But if your rolling a hardtail, that shouldn't affect you much.
