I lived in Johnson City, TN until 6 weeks ago. Here is a post on one of my sites on riding in SC, Croft Passage State Park and South Side State Park. This is NOT a trail for total adrenaline junkies but it is a fun cross country trail. It was only a couple hours drive for me so it was well worth it. hubpages.com/hub/Mountain-biking-Croft-Passage-State-Park-and-Southside-Park-SCThe Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol, TN area offers some great riding also. Warrior's Path, ETSU trails, Steele Creek Park, Bay's Mountain and Cherokee National Forest all offer great rides.www.nextstop.com/guide/3OdtknKw0Uo/technical-mountain-bike-trails/If you have a significant other that likes to ride and enjoys off-road but not technical New River Trail, Virginia Creeper and Guest River Gorge are beautiful rides: www.nextstop.com/guide/FzsOrJof3dE/mountain-bike-trails-unpaved-but-non-technical/Just some ideas not TOO far from you. The Virginia and Tennessee rides are all close enough together that a long week's vacation (Saturday thru following Sunday) would be long enough to get them all in. My nextstop.com page gives some good ideas of eateries in these areas as well.
